WILD TURKEY - Russell’s Reserve Bourbon - Private Barrel Selection - “I Like Bob”

Our friends at Campari have hooked us up — a single barrel from each of their boubon distilleries, and we don’t need to tell you how hard it is to get a barrel of Russell’s Reserve Bourbon. These were selected by a committee of Drammers Club chapter heads — Bob Brown (Las Vegas), Pat Conaty (St. Louis), Sean Crain (Indianapolis), Mike Epstein (Raleigh/Durham), Yoni Miller (Stamford) and Charlie Prince (Club President), with help from our longtime friend and fellow Drammer Marlon Tulaszewski.
The barrel we selected was distilled Oct. 1, 2014, dumped on May 14, 2024 and bottled on June 11, 2024. Barrel #23-0035, aged in Warehouse TY-K, Floor #4, aged 9 years, 7 months, 13 days. Bottled at 55% abv / 110 proof (as many distilleries do these day — instead of cask strength, they pick a number just below cask strength so they don’t have to refile the label with the TTB for each single barrel). The barrel yielded 186 bottles.
WHY IS THIS SINGLE BARREL NAMED: “I LIKE BOB”? Our barrel pick team met with Bruce Russell at the distillery and after discussing each of the samples we had to choose from, we took a vote — everyone liked the same barrel, with one dissenting vote from Bob, our Las Vegas chapter head. He had narrowed it down to two options — the one everyone else liked, and one other, and he tried to make the case why we should choose the other option, which he thought was more unusual for a Russell’s single barrel pick. Charlie asked the group “What do you guys think of what Bob said, does that change anyone’s mind?” Nobody responded. “Come on guys, somebody say something — Any thoughts on what Bob said?” After a long pause, Yoni responded “Well, I guess all I can say is…… I like Bob”. Ha. So, it was settled — Bob was overruled, but we all agreed, we like Bob, and decided to put it on the label. :)
