Rezpiral Mezcal - 2019 Tobasiche Mezcal by Simeon and Apolonio Ramirez

A note from Drammers Club: Simeon and Apolonio are that rare combo of single family producers that are also major heavyweights in the mezcal scene in Oaxaca, and our club has had the privilege of visiting them at their palenque a few times over the years. This, their tobasiche mezcal, really stuck out for us, and some of these plants can grow as long as 20 years before they have enough sugar in them to harvest. Truly incredible, and in this case produced in the San Agustin Amatengo region of Oaxaca. They use a traditional ox-drawn tahona to break up the agaves, and remarkably it is only single-distilled, still coming out at 50.9% abv. We were blown away by this mezcal, and we hope you are too. Btw, check out another batch of Mexicano agave mezcal that we selected that was made by Simeon Ramirez in 2022 after his father Apolonio retired!
