MACLEAN’S NOSE

Blended Scotch Whisky

This is a fun one. Brought to us by the Ardnamurchan/Adelphi team, 1 of 25,000 bottles released worldwide. Allegedly it’s named after a rocky outcrop not far from the Ardnamurchan distillery, but it would certainly seem pertinent that the famous whisky expert Charles MacLean, who is also Adelphi’s official “Chief Nose”, would likely have played a key part in the creation of this whisky. In our books, this whisky is a celebration of Mr. Maclean. Reportedly it was blended with the West Coast style of Scotland in mind — high malt content (70%), and a significant percent of ex-sherry casks. Reportedly it features a mix of malt whisky from Campbeltown and the West Highlands, plus grain whisky from the Lowlands.

700ml, 46% abv

Reportedly this is the combination of barrels that went into this batch:

• 40 ex-Bourbon ASB of Malt Whisky distilled in the West Highlands (2018)
• 5 ex-Bourbon ASB of Malt Whisky distilled in Campbeltown (2016)
• 16 ex-Sherry hogsheads of Malt Whisky distilled in the West Highlands (2018)
• 21 ex-Bourbon hogsheads of Grain whisky distilled in the Lowlands. (2017)

About Ardnamurchan distillery
Ardnamurchan distillery was built and is owned by Adelphi, an independent bottling company and is considered one of the most remote distilleries in Scotland.

The distillery prioritizes sustainability, and notably is powered by renewable energy to reduce their carbon footprint via hydro-electric power and a large bio-mass boiler using timber from the nearby Ardnamurchan forest. The boiler provides heat to the distillery floor maltings and the distillery and the whisky is created using water from springs above the distillery drawing from the Glenmore River.
