The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured single malt is the second whisky expression from our island distillery and the Isle of Harris. 

In the far south-western corner of Spain lies the ancient region of Andalusia. Here among hot and dusty hills, the men and women of sherry-makers José y Miguel Martín ‘cooper’ casks with age-old craft and care before they are filled by their wineries in Jerez.

We first visited this historic part of world back in 2015 to begin our relationship with this highly respected family business, and have been proud to source our specially selected Oloroso butts directly from them ever since.

Their Oloroso sherry is a dry, dark and nutty fortified wine and its influence on the wood in turn imparts an unmistakably bold richness  to our spirit when the casks finally reach Harris and begin maturing our island whisky far from their original home.

Non-chill filtered / No artificial colouring. 

OL 00002 24: Tasting Notes

“A smoky toasted oak aroma hits me instantly, along with scents of sherry and peat, reminding me of a spiced hot toddy by a burning peat fire. Then there’s a bouquet of spiced sweetness like clove, cinnamon, honey and a wee bit of citrus. When sipped, I experience a smooth oiliness which gives way to a pleasant burn, alongside layers of flavour. Dates and figs, rich chocolate, roasted almonds coated with caramelised brown sugar. The finish is long and drying with a deep sweetness, and a mix of sweet peat smoke, leather and a distant florals. A perfect dram for some self-reflection or to enjoy in good company”

The Isle of Harris Distillery is a whisky distillery in Tarbert, Scotland that was founded in 2015. It's the only distillery in the Outer Hebrides. The distillery was created to help revitalize the local community and economy.
