This bottling has an interesting back-story. As we understand it, the team at Barrell purchased essentially a tanker truck full of what appeared to be (and tasted like) bourbon, but they didn’t have the paperwork to prove it, only the paperwork to show that it was Kentucky whiskey. Apparently it had been sourced by a company that intended to make a flavored whiskey or something similar out of it, so they weren’t overly concerned given that what they were planning to release wouldn’t qualify as bourbon anyway. But it tasted really good, so Barrell set about recasking the juice in a series of unusual barrels, which they released in their “Private Release” line. Drammers Club picked up two of these casks (the other being the same juice being finished in a Pear Brandy Cask).
