Artist Series #13: Bowmore 21yo (2001)
ARTIST SERIES #13 - BOWMORE DISTILLERY (2001)
AGED 21 YEARS
Created in 2011 by La Maison du Whisky, the ARTIST range is dedicated to single casks bottled at natural strength. This unique collection of exceptional single malts includes offerings aged to perfection. This year’s range is inspired by the world of Iris Scott, an American artist born in 1984. Inspired by the untouched wilderness of the American Southwest, where she lives, as well as by ancient petroglyphs and native ruins, the artistic expression of her work takes shape through an instinctualist style over 40,000 years old. The colorful pieces that adorn this range convey an aura of radiant energy bursting with impressionistic movement.

Located on the south coast of Islay, part of the chain of islands known as the Hebrides, Bowmore was founded in 1779 by John P. Simpson and is the island’s first official distillery. Established as a farm distillery, Bowmore, which means «great reef» in Gaelic, has its own malting air. With a fermentation time of 70 hours, the distillery uses 4 stills to distil its peated new make at 25/30 ppm. Its best-known cellar, number 1, is located below sea level. The distillery was closed during the Second World War. It was used by RAF Costal Command to fight submarines.
TASTING NOTES:
Nose: Delicate and fruit-driven. Aromas of tropical pineapple and banana open the nose and develop into fresh vanilla bean, lemon zest and seeded fresh pastry.
Palate: Rich and intense. Reminiscent of an open fire, a powerful peatiness shines through alongside softer notes of warmed beeswax and wild ginger root.
Finale: Delicate and lasting. Citrus and smoke dance with cinnamon bark and earthy ash.
