Bruichladdich - Islay Single Malt

(Unpeated) Islay Barley 2013

Bruichladdich has long been known as the leading Scotch distillery when it comes to proving that terroir matters — that the weather, geography, soil etc. will affect the barley and thus the flavor of the whisky, making this release particularly important to them — a Bruichladdich whisky made using only barley grown on Islay (the island in Southwest Scotland where Bruichladdich is located). This is the 8th release from Bruichladdich in this Islay Barley series, and while it doesn’t carry an age statement, our understanding is that this unseated single malt is an 8 year old. They do disclose that it has been matured in a combination of 75% first fill American oak casks, and 25% second fill French oak casks having previously contained Ribera del Duero, Syrah, and Pauillac wines.

From the brand: The barley from the 2013 vintage is sourced from seven farms across Islay - a fully traceable and high provenance whisky with honeyed porridge and lemon meringue pie notes, it evokes a true sense of place.
